Annual Plan of Delhi fixed at Rs 10,000 cr

New Delhi: The annual Plan of Delhi for 2009-10 has been finalised at Rs 10,000 crore. This was decided at a meeting between the Chief Minister, Ms Sheila Dikshit, and the Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission, Mr Montek Singh Ahluwalia, here on Friday.

At the meeting, the Deputy Chairman expressed confidence that preparations for the Commonwealth Games will be completed in time.

Mr Ahluwalia said after successfully addressing the problems of power sector, the State Government needs to focus on drinking water supply which is a huge problem. He pointed out that while water loss was 45 to 50 per cent, the State has the highest water consumption.

Priorities

Briefing the Commission on priorities for the current financial year, Ms Dikshit said the highest priority will be given to social service and the Government would be spending nearly 56 per cent of its plan budget.

She said in this sector, highest allocations have been earmarked for housing and urban development which will get 15.24 per cent followed by 13.66 per cent for water supply and sanitation.

In view of the growing urbanisation and high growth in the transport sector an outlay of Rs 3068.76 crore would be kept for the transport sector.
